National #9 (Wagner) Skillet Heat Ring, FLAT, c.1914, RESTORED Vintage Cast Iron

$119.00

National #9 skillet made by Wagner in beautiful restored condition. No visible chips, cracks, repairs, tooling or deep pitting/scratches. Appropriate wear for age, and original marking of National appears to be have been pressed weakly or faint, but not from wear. It’s clear this is how it’s always been. The pan does not spin, rock or right on a glass surface.

Vintage: 1914-1930

The Wagner corporation made a few different lines of cookware besides their own, and the National line was meant to be an affordable alternative to their main line. At a half inch or so smaller in diameter, a shorter height, and thinner walls, it used less iron and therefore cost less to make, providing an opportunity for Wagner to sell them at a discount against their own Wagner brand and stay competitive with their own competition. Most other major brands had their alternatives as well. Griswold had their Victor; Wapak their Oneta; Favorite their Miami… In the 1930s, Wagner added their own logo to the iron, distinguishing themselves as the maker and taking credit for what had gained its own reputation for being fine high end cookware at a budget price.

The National line are lighter, easier to get utensils into, perfect for folks looking for a lighter skillet, but still have the top-notch quality that Wagner is known for.

Important stuff for all listings:👇🏼

Corrections and feedback are always welcome. I am a cast iron collector, trader, restorer, reseller, trader and amateur historian. I don’t copy and paste from Google or from other eBay listings. None of my information comes from AI. None of our listings are written by or assisted by AI. (Aren’t you tired of browsing listings that say “this piece is compatible with both electric and gas stovetops, making it a versatile addition to any kitchen.” ?? Who talks like that!)

UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, all cast iron items are stripped using safe, water-soluble methods and electrolysis, and never see metal tools harder than a stainless scrubby or steel wool. This is called Restoration. Not Modification. After cleaning, any number of various oils are used to season the iron at an appropriate temperature multiple times until water resistance is achieved, usually 3-5x.

Why buy dirty unrestored iron at retail prices when you have better options? Why take the risk of not knowing what’s under there? And don’t be shy to make offers! Just don’t compare a handpicked gem, carved and polished in a case, for a dirty rock someone found on a curb! 😆

Everything we sell is painstakingly packed in foam, pool noodles or equivalent, immovable in packaging, and inchES from the ends of the box. We stand behind our packaging and STILL add insurance to each shipment because we still can’t vouch for the shipping providers. If there are any issues, contact us immediately.

We encourage bundling multiple items for reduced shipping. There will be close to 750 items slowly listed from this collection, check our other listings for what’s been listed, or if you’re looking for anything specific, feel free to ask.
